Scavenger hunt

Just a quick post this evening, just wanted to show you what I'm hopefully going to preoccupying myself with this weekend as I'm still jobless (boo), found this photography scavenger hunt idea from My friend Rochelle's blog: (Really great blog, take a peek!) she found something called the Diana Scavenger hunt, as its designed for the cult classic Diana camera (which I want!) but I figured I would have a go with my fish eye!

Here's what you have to look for and photograph:

1) something blue
2) circles
3) a number
4) something that begins with the letter T
5) look up
6) a self-portrait
7) something sweet
8) clouds
9) a furry creature
10) sparkly, shiny things
11) look down
12) morning hair

Here are some results from puglypixel.com:

Will definitely at least start the hunt this weekend....

Antique typewriters and Fish eyed wonders

I have been having the strangest dreams lately. The other night I dreamt that I saved John Travolta from drowning, (WTF?), and last night I was dreaming about the most amazing blue antique typewriter. Did I buy it in my dream? No. Because even in my dreams I couldn't afford it...although, to be fair for some reason dream land is highly over priced and it cost £512,000. I would looove an antique typewriter so much, I just think they're beautiful and essential for proper writers (hehe). Here are some pretty images I found on Flikr when I typed in "Blue Typewriter":

In other news I have finally gotten around to loading my new fish eye camera with film! And have officially taken my first shot :) This camera was a present from my boyfriend and I love it. This is the one he got me:

Isn't it beyootiful? Can't wait to use it to take gorgeous lomography pictures like these:

Life

Had such an interesting day today. Went to London Zoo with my boyfriend, had the best time fooling around and 'oooh-ing'/ 'ahhh-ing' to everything we saw. But then I found out I lost my part time job due to financial reasons. Which is totally fair enough- no ones fault at all, just one of those things. So I got a lil upset, of course, everything had been going so well. But ya know what I realised- that's life. These things happen, and it makes you appreciate the good things. I know it's not like a tragic loss or anything, more an irritation really, but I figure there's no point making a fuss over it. S**t happens, and that's what makes it interesting. Was such a fab day, didn't want that news to over shadow it. Took some great pics, have a look over on my photography blog: http://katnicholls365project.blogspot.com/

Anyway- while we're on the subject of life, came across a new photographer love (via http://ilikenicethings.blogspot.com/)

Erin Mulvehill http://icanfreezetime.com/index.php?/root/life/

Take a look at her 'Life' series, I love them. Captures all the details we never think to notice. So easy to miss it all.

Here's the text that went with it:

"she looked into my eyes with omniscience,
and spoke with a beautifully hypnotizing tone,
'well do you ever feel as if you're in this alone?''

so she held me with one hand
and placed the other to my ear,
'one must listen before one can hear'

and then she posed the final question,
the answer to which could set me free:
'do you ever wonder what will be the very last,
fading image that your eyes ever see?'"

Lissie

Just finished reviewing an album sampler from Lissie- this song rocks my world. Please check her out!!!

In other news...first week of internship and part-time work went really well, ridiculously happy with it all. Internship involves writing fashion blogs, researching designers, twittering and facebooking. Part-time job involves fitting shoes for little kiddely-winks and gushing over baby's. Free time involves reviewing music, evenings in with the boy and BBQ's with the girls. Happy days so far then! Have kept up with the photography project and done a few fashion posts to....it's really nice to be busy again after so much time off, as crazy as that sounds! All is well in Limbo Land.

More????

Yeah, more. I've just gone and created 2 more blogs! My fashion blog I mentioned a while back....

http://katsstylelimbo.blogspot.com/

And one for me to post a photo a day for my 365 challenge I'm attempting....

http://katnicholls365project.blogspot.com/

To be honest, I've probably bitten off more than I can chew, what with my new internship and part-time job both starting this week, but hey, if I'm gonna go back to work I might as well make it difficult for myself. Let me know what ya think...

Park Presents

I just came across this post from illustrator/blogger Katie Sokola, and wanted to share it with you because it's fantastic and just brightened my day!!

And it looks like this......

"It's so lovely outside that I decided to go to the park and leave little presents for everyone!

I got chalk for the kids,

Tennis balls for the dogs,

and flowers for the adults.

Although, they look quite happy playing with the chalk!"

What a brilliant idea- I love the way this girl thinks. Inspiration to spread the joy :)

Developments....

Well, there have been some rather exciting developments in Kat's Limbo. After returning from Thailand unemployed and confused about a future plan- something has finally come up. I managed to get myself a Fashion Editor internship with a great company in London! How about that? So my new plan looks a little something like this:

  • Work at internship, get lots of lovely fashion experience.

  • Get a part-time job to fund self.

  • At some point move to either London or Brighton with the gawjus boy Antony.

....That's all I got so far. I don't want to make a 'life plan', it's way more fun to see what gets thrown your way and ride the waves as they come.

I also want to e-x-p-a-n-d beyond this blog, 'To Limbo and Beyond'. I think I'm going to set up a fashion blog on the side to focus on that, as well as a photography blog. I'm going to do the 365 project and try to take a photo a day for a year...starting Monday. We'll see how that goes.....

Speaking of Blogs, have a peek at these:

Cool stuff :)

Also check out the band 'Woodpigeon' Enjoying them on this sunny day!

Hope everyone is enjoying the first sunny days of spring :)

Almost forgot....

Happy Easter everyone :) now I'm no Christian, but who doesn't love a holiday that celebrates bunny's and chocolate???! I had a nice weekend seeing my friends, hanging by the lake, watching feel-good films like '500 days of Summer' and 'Amelie'... and of course eating way too many eggs. Long live the chocolate- egg- fluffy- bunny holiday!

Collection a day

Just wanted to quickly share a cool project: http://collectionaday2010.blogspot.com/

"This is a blog documenting a project that will span exactly one year, from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010. On each of those 365 days, I will photograph or draw (and occasionally paint) one collection. Most of the collections are real and exist in my home or studio; those I will photograph. Some are imagined; those I will draw or (occasionally) paint."

Here are some images from the site:

I think this is such a cool idea and I've been thinking of similar projects after reading a photography book my boyfriend bought me, it has lots of idea's and suggestions such as:

  • '365 Project' this ones simple- take one photo everyday, something to some up the day. Would be tough to think of creative idea's everyday, but I like the challenge.

  • 'Consumer Project' Take a photo of everything you buy! Food, CD's, cinema, groceries etc. Would be interesting to see what you spend money on hey!

  • 'DIY Time Machine' Recreate a photo of you as a kid- similar pose, similar outfit etc. would look pretty funny side by side.

Going to have to pick one and make it a challenge. For now though, here are my collection photos: Magazines! I have an unhealthy obsession....

Summer lovin'

OK, this post is a bit premature I know, but I've been trying to get some summery inspiration for a new short story I want to contribute to Cellardoor's summer issue (link to them in my list of fave blogs). It really is tricky to conjure up summer stories when it's still chilly and the clouds keep intruding on the sun's fun. I found some images to try and spark something-

All very pretty, no? Makes me want to go back to the 50's and ride a bike to a lake, whip out a picnic blanket and share lemonade and sponge cake with my lover. Then maybe head to Venice beach and get the Z-Boys to teach us how to surf and then skate some empty pools with them....

Then we would head to a festival with pretty folk artists like Laura Marling and Lisa Mitchell and fall asleep under the stars.

PLAN. Summer still has this notion of freedom about it, doesn't it? I guess it goes back to summer holidays away from school. I love summer, even in England, it's always such a novelty for me to not have to wear a heavy jacket and woolly scarfs. Sunbathing in the garden on days off, BBQ's, drinks by the lake, festivals, road trips....OK I'm officially in the summer mood now. Time to write some summer magic.
