Song of the week.....

Just a very quick post today- wanted to share one of my favourite songs with you....

I first discovered Feist like many others- after hearing their song '1234' on the iPod advert a few years ago, I quickly hunted down their album at the time, 'The Reminder' and fell in love. Since then I have listened to almost everything they've recorded and always go back to this one song.

The song is called 'Honey Honey', and this is a live version- I just love how into it the lead singer gets, such a brilliant performance.

Enjoy x

Under your Spell...

Have fallen in love with a spell-binding brand called, ahem, 'Spell & the Gypsy Collective'.

This fashion and accessories brand from Australia combines pretty much everything I love - leather, turquoise, navajo imagery, feathers, crystals.... All of which makes me want to just pack a bag and become a nomad, travel around the world and start a new life with the gypsies.

Spell comes from the minds of two Aussie sisters, Elizabeth and Isabella, who took inspiration from their artistic parents and now sell their work from Byron Bay. Check out the site here.

Elizabeth + Isabella

My sister has recently started making jewellery you know..... so I'm thinking we should somehow join forces and move to Oz..... and maybe cast some spells of our own ;)

Ingibjorg Hanna

Whilst flicking through the latest issue of Toni & Guy magazine, (my sister works for T&G and got me a copy to peruse), I stumbled across a piece about designer Ingibjorg Hanna and instantly swooned over her unique way of thinking.

What does she do I hear you ask? Well, to put it simply, she makes the ordinary things in life that little bit more  extraordinary.

I mean, who needs boring coat hangers and coat racks when you can have ravens and antlers instead? Great for those extra special items you want to display in style.

Check out her site here.

Jeremy Laing

So the weather is slowly starting to warm up and the evenings are getting lighter, so what do I do? Start looking at autumn/winter fashion *sigh* but when it's this beautiful, I think it's allowed.

Let me introduce you to Jeremy Laing's vision of winter 2011.... a sea of khakis, greys and blacks, maxi skirts and flowing chiffon as far as the eye can see, occult inspired imagery and fluid silhouettes.

This makes my heart go boom.

 et vous?

Here's a little background on Jeremy Laing, taken from his website...

'Jeremy's self-taught method, which combines organic and geometric approaches to pattern making and construction, was honed while studying in Toronto, on exchange at Westminster University in London, and through an apprenticeship with Alexander McQueen. Following his apprenticeship, Jeremy worked freelance developing showpieces for five of McQueen's collections, demonstrating his strength in innovative pattern making, garment construction, and the use of textile to create form.'

Norwegian Wood

One of my all time favourite books is being turned into a movie, and I am incredibly excited...

The book is called 'Norwegian Wood' (yup, the Beatles song) and is by my favourite writer, Haruki Murakami. It takes the lead character back to the 60's Japan to his most significant relationship and re-lives it in all its glory. A love story set within surreal, dream like prose, *sigh* I love it.

The film will be interesting....I'm excited to see how they will transfer Murakami's writing style to the big screen, but also worried it won't do the book justice.

Either way, I'm going to have to see it and report back :)

Here's the trailer:

Also while we're on the subject- I stumbled across some amazing illustration by Emmeline Pidgen and whilst perusing her lovely blog, I noticed she has drawn a design for the Norwegian Wood film, take a look....

She's recently had the designs printed as postcards and they are simply stunning- will have to get my hands on one :)

Any good films you guys are excited to see?

Rusted skirts and winged beasts

First of all- Happy Pancake day and International Women's day!
(Whoever planned that clash deserves a medal)

Right, onto less important things! I just wanted to take a minute and show you what I bought when I went to London Fashion Weekend....

Now, I was good and only bought one item from the show itself. There I was, scanning designer names and was oooh-ing and ahh-ing over all the pretty things, dreaming of a time when I would one day have enough money to buy such things, when BAM! The name 'American Retro' jumped out at me.

I love this brand and got more than a little excited. After thumbing through their stunning pieces I stumbled across a flowing vest complete with an owl motif. Simple and just my style. I had to have it. So I handed over £30 and left with a piece from my favourite brand- score.

Here 'tis....

After that moment of excitement, we wondered over to Covent Garden and spent far too much time in Urban Outfitters. I hadn't planned on buying anything else.....but then this happened.

I couldn't very well leave it there now could I? Look at the colour.....the free-flowing layers.....the COLOUR. So it's now found a new home in my cramp wardrobe, ready to make friends with the American Retro vest as soon as Summer comes along. I think they're going to get on well :)

Song of the week.....

I have fallen truly, madly, deeply in love with this song and this band. This song gives me shivers, you know the ones you get when you've realised you've stumbled onto something incredible? Yeah those. I'm gushing, I know, I'll hush now. Oh but I do get to write a review of their new album for For Folk's Sake- how exciting, more room to gush :)

Paper Aeroplanes: 'Lost'

What it looks like to turn 25....

I turned 25 last week, (yeah- woah)

Quite a milestone really. You're moving out of your happy, safe, familiar early twenties and into rather unnerving grown-up territory. It's both terrifying and incredibly exciting at the same time.

Anyway- this isn't a blog post for me to ramble on about ageing, it's to show you how I spent my Birthday week off work.

Monday:
This evening I rallied up my boy, my sister and her boy to come with me to watch 'Sea of Bees' play an intimate gig at the Gallery Cafe in London. Such a great band and such a fantastic gig. The highlight of which saw me accost 'Peggy Sue' (my favourite band, who just happened to be in the audience) in the girls loo to tell them how much I loved them and something about me wearing their T-shirt....

Wednesday:
My Birthday :D Today I spent time with my lovely Antony. We went for a yummy lunch in Guildford and hit the Cinema. In the evening we headed home and inhaled lots of Chinese and wine with my parents. Here's what I wore...

Saturday:
This evening I went out with some friends for dinner and drinks- ate too much, drank too much and laughed just enough ;)

Sunday:
LONDON FASHION WEEKEND Yeah, I was excited about this one. Me, my muma, my sis and her other half made our way to Somerset House and rifled through designer clothes, ooh'd and ahh'd over pretty things and took in the atmosphere at the catwalk show.

I'm not going to lie- I wanted to stay forever.

What I wore:
(skirt and shoes- Primark, tee- River Island, cardi- New Look, )

My sister trying on some headbands :)

I also purchased a couple of bits Saturday- but I'll leave that for another time ;)
