Dear 16 Year Old Me...

I got the inspiration from this post through a Tweet that's currently doing the rounds on Twitter called 'tweet your 16 year old self' and I thought, hmmm, what would I tell my 16 year old self now I'm 24....and I realised it would be far too much to fit in a mere 140 characters. So I thought I'd write my past self a little letter, 16 year old me is going through some tough times....

Dear 16 year old me,

First and foremost, stop listening to the popular kids at school- they have hit their peak and the only way for them is down. Between you and me, most of them are now fat/pregnant/have 5 kids/working menial jobs/depressed anyway, so stop stressing. I know you're going through a really hard time right now, you're currently in the grips of anorexia and are terrified of gaining weight. I want you to know that you do get through this and end up a stronger person because of it. Take mum's advice and see a doctor, but again between the two of us, it's leaving school that really helps you in the end. You go to college and find freedom through fashion, something that surprisingly pulls you out of yourself. You meet a boy and have your first relationship. It's going to be great, but you should know now that it will end and it will hurt. You get over this too and go to uni a different person. You grow in so many different ways and pull yourself out of anorexia once and for all.

Listen to your sister more, I know right now you have nothing in common, but trust me, you're going to be best friends soon. A few of the girls at school you thought you would never talk to become some of your best friends, so keep an open mind. Try and find yourself some better music to listen to, Linkin Park and Stained aren't who you are deep down. I know you think wearing baggy jeans and trying to skate will impress the boys- it wont. Just be you and don't worry, you'll have lots of boys chasing after you in the future...you might even fall in love one day. All I'll say is don't dismiss that tall bearded guy you meet in Quarantine, I know you'll be drunk when you first meet him, but a few years down the line you'll want to remember that face ;)

Take deep breathes and be strong, this is a tough year, but it gets so much better I promise you. Keep writing and keep learning. Keep your head up and don't let the bastards grind you down!! Oh, and invest in some John Freda frizz ease, it will tame your mane :)

Lots of love,

24 year old me Xx

What would you tell your 16 year old self?

Song of the Week

I didn't like these guys until I saw them live at Reading in 2005. I then fell in lust with Caleb's voice and the music they made.

Then they released this album with this as the first track....

This song ('Closer') gets me more excited than any song should.

Their latest album is.....OK. Haven't gotten chills yet. Think I'll just listen to this on repeat for the rest of my life ta.

Rock 'n' Rose Baby

The 2nd of November saw an evening of frantic online shopping as Vogue's ever popular 'Fashion's Night Out' came indoors. Vogue's 'Fashion's Night In' gave hoards of people the chance to get involved in a great event from the comfort of their own homes, and all for a good cause, (the money raised went to KidsCo). Personally I felt quite smug about the fact that I could attend a 'fashion' event wearing baggy jeans and a stained top... but then again I am easily pleased! There were some brilliant retailers participating, from Urban Outfitters and ASOS to top designer names.

Sadly I am, (as ever), lacking in the cash department so I restrained myself and picked up just one item. That item was a teeny tiny pine cone necklace from Rock 'n' Rose. With my FNI code I got 20% off the perfect Autumn charm :) It arrived through my letter box today and I had to share it with ya, so here are some piccies....

There are some gorgeous pieces on the website including a scrabble ring and typewriter necklace- I'll definitely be going back for more!

Did anyone else get any bargains at Fashion's Night In? I can't wait til next year :)

How the Mad Men Do it....

Thanks to the wonderful world of Twitter I stumbled across a really great article called 'The Mad Men Guide to Changing the World with Words' from the Copy Blogger. Now I've not personally watched 'Mad Men', but the article takes the way characters from the show approach advertising and translates it to writing for the Internet, including blogging.

There are some great tips in there based on quotes from Mad Men including:

'A new idea is something they don’t know yet, so of course it’s not going to show up as an option.'

~ Don Draper

....and...

'Fear stimulates my imagination.'

~ Don Draper

I really recommend bloggers and writers out there to give it a read, really stimulating idea's. My favourite is probably this tip....

"Doing nothing

'I’ll never get used to the fact that most of the time it looks like you’re doing nothing.'

~ Roger Sterling

When you’re a writer, sitting by the pool and reading a book is all part of your job.
Sure, it’s relaxing. Sure, you enjoy it. Sure, you might feel a little guilty about it.
But if you stop, what happens? I’ll tell you: your creativity will dry up, your work will get stale, and you’ll lose your edge.
So, stop being ashamed of it.
Personally, I spend about 3-4 hours per day watching television, reading books, and listening to NPR. On average, I also stare into space for about 1-2 hours, just thinking.
If anyone asks what I’m doing, I say I’m working. Because I am."

Can relate to this big time, feel bad for wanting time to read magazines and blogs. Think I'm going to add the Copy Blogger to my daily reading list- seeing as I'm in the copywriting and blogging world, makes sense really :)

Anyone out there follow any great writing blogs?

Dip-Dye....

A new hair trend is rapidly taking over stylish heads everywhere, the dip-dye, (or 'Ombre hair' as it's also known), where basically your hair falls from dark roots to light ends. I'm sure a lot of people will look at this and just say- "they need their roots doing!" but to me it looks effortless and a little bit grunge- just my style. I'm already working the dip-dye look a little, but after seeing these images I want to get my ends lightened even more...

Anyone else loving this look?

Just a Minute....(October)

Have just discovered a cute meme from the lovely 'Daydream Lily', it's called 'Just a Minute' and the idea is to take some time at the end of each month to write what you've been up to in a quick succinct way! Take a look at Liss' here.

So I thought this could be a nice little addition to Limbo, take a minute to go over what I'm making/watching/reading/listening/loving/buying at the end of each month....

So here goes nothing...

Making- A rather large profile on Spotify, currently at 1344 songs! Genuinely don't know how I survived for so long without it!!

Watching- Lots of 'Top Model' shows, Russel Howard's Good News, Seven Days, X Factor (I know, cringe) and plenty of great films like 500 Days of Summer and Into the Wild.......oh and one awful film....The Wolfman.

Reading- Vogue and Elle by monthly appointment, book-wise I plan on starting 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' soon.

Listening- Bon Ivor, Fleet Foxes, Typhoon, Charlotte Gainsburg, Deerhunter, Local Natives and Peggy Sue.

Loving- Discovering new blogs! Have discovered loads through Twitter lately :) Take a look at my links list!

Buying- Not alot! Frappacino's and magazines mainly! Next month will hopefully be full of clothes shopping though....

Song of the Week

Sometimes you just need to listen to something LOUD.

I'm going back to my college days with this band- Jimmy Eat World. This is their latest single, 'My Best Theory' and I'm loving it. Play it loud and scream along music fans...
