Another one of my favourite books is being made into a film! Excited and anxious in equal measures. 'One Day' is a sweet, funny tale of two friends and how their relationship mutates over the years, meeting up for one day each year on the anniversary of the day they met, I fell in love with the concept.
Interested to see how Anne Hathaway tackles the role of Emma, I like the look of the trailer but only time will tell!
Have any of you read the book? Going to check out the movie?
One of my all time favourite books is being turned into a movie, and I am incredibly excited...
The book is called 'Norwegian Wood' (yup, the Beatles song) and is by my favourite writer, Haruki Murakami. It takes the lead character back to the 60's Japan to his most significant relationship and re-lives it in all its glory. A love story set within surreal, dream like prose, *sigh* I love it.
The film will be interesting....I'm excited to see how they will transfer Murakami's writing style to the big screen, but also worried it won't do the book justice.
Either way, I'm going to have to see it and report back :)
Here's the trailer:
Also while we're on the subject- I stumbled across some amazing illustration by Emmeline Pidgen and whilst perusing her lovely blog, I noticed she has drawn a design for the Norwegian Wood film, take a look....
She's recently had the designs printed as postcards and they are simply stunning- will have to get my hands on one :)
I have been looking forward to seeing this film since August last year, when my boyfriend pointed me in the direction of the trailer (I even blogged about it here) and I'm pleased to say that after months of anticipation, it totally lived up to my expectations.
I must admit, I do have quite a 'pretentious' taste in film (so I've been told anyway!) so this metaphorical twisted thing of beauty ticked all the boxes for me.
Natalie Portman is brilliant and I have fallen in love with her acting skills even more after this. The film is claustrophobic, difficult to watch and at the same time utterly beautiful. I'm sure not every one will agree, but for all those who love their movies with a healthy dose of surrealism and a side of interpretive thinking, I suggest taking a peek.
Oh and the costumes by Rodarte are simply stunning....
I'm not going to lie here, I'm not a hardcore Runaways fan or anything, and I know diddly squat about how they started... so this film has clearly been made to educate people like me. Female front-women are now all the rage in rock, and I think its quite clear that these guys had a lot to do with it. Excited to see Kristen Stewart in something that isn't Twilight (she cameoed in 'Into the Wild' and was brilliant'), she's a good actress, her character in Twilight just bugs me. Also excited to see Dakota Fanning- she's grown up hasn't she?! Still looks young to me, but will be good to see her in a more adult role, I think she's gonna be a bit of an acting genius that one.
Speaking of girls that RAWK, I also wanted to post a video of my current favourite singing ladies- Peggy Sue. Not punk rockers like the Runaways, but they rock in their own way! And yes I have mentioned them before....here, and here. But never before have I made you watch a video!! This is my favorite song called 'The Sea, The Sea' sung live. Listen. Love. Listen again.
And so here comes another blog with lists of exciting people/films/music/(other) blogs that are making my life that extra bit rose tinted at the moment. Some were found through magazines, some through word of mouth (alright, twitter) and some I stumbled across all on my own :D
I'll just stuck right in yeah? Yeah.
Lets start with the music. These bands/singers are currently exciting my ears:
Cate le Bon (Listen to 'Me oh My' such a gorgeous song)
St. Vincent (I've seen this bands name flying around the web for a while and today I finally took the time to listen- VERY GOOD, me likey)
A Fine Frenzy (Recommended by my friend Rochelle who made the excellent point: 'How can you not like a song with clapping?!')
JAY Z (Just for a spot of contrast...there is a gangsta somewhere deep inside, desperate to get out and write sic rhymes)
Right next section- Films!
Where the Wild Things Are (see previous post! Out today- v.excited)
An Education (read about this in Elle, is about a school girl getting it on with her teacher in the 60's. Caused quite a stir at Cannes film festival and is written by Nick Hornby so you can't go wrong).
NEXT! Fashion....
I kinda want a snood. That's a scarf/hood by the way. And it looks like this-
I also would quite like some statement boots to get me through winter- these would be perfect-
Zara Wood (or 'Woody') is an illustrator that has collaborated with topshop and has recently had her illustrated cameo jewellery featured in Elle- take a peek at http://www.zarawood.com/ Here's a couple of hers I like :)
So there you have it, another list of lovely THINGS. I'll be filling the next post with more things as I share with the world my charity shop finds from Goldaming last week. Stay tuned kids :D
